What are the benefits of being an NBCT in WY?

Wyoming NBCT Financial Incentives

Wyoming is one of the states that does provide financial incentives to teachers who are National Board Certified.  Teachers receive an annual $4,000 stipend for the life of their certificate. This is however contingent on funding from the state legislature. New NBCTs also receive a one-time $1,000 bonus from the Ellbogen Foundation during an annual celebration dinner.

State Recognition

As with a number of states, Wyoming teachers who achieve National Board Certification are able to count this certification as credit toward obtaining and renewing a professional license.

Educational Credits

Many universities in Wyoming provide graduate credit to teachers who pursue National Board Certification. Make sure to check with your local Wyoming university to find out if this is an option for you. One of these universities includes the University of Wyoming. Through the Wyoming National Board Certification Initiative’s partnership, the University of Wyoming offers the Master of Arts degree in education, which accepts a National Board portfolio in lieu of a Plan B paper. To find out more information on this, make sure to check out university's website.

NBPTS Support Options

A number of districts in Wyoming offer support for teachers looking to achieve or renew their NBCT certificate. Certain parts of Wyoming may not offer support to Initial National Board Candidates or NB MOC candidates, however candidates looking for support for Component 3 and Component 4 are encouraged to join Tracey Bryant Stuckey's Initial Professional Development programs in order to receive the support they feel needed.  For candidates who are completing the Maintenance of Certification (NB MOC), be sure to check out Renew Like a Pro.
