What are the benefits of being an NBCT in VA?

Virginia NBCT Financial Incentives                 

Virginia is one of the states that recognizes Nationally Board Certified teachers and pays financial stipends. Upon successful completion of initial certification, NBCTs recieve an initial award of $5,000, contingent on available funding and meeting eligibility criteria. After the first year, NBCTs in Virginia will receive $2,500 per year for the life of their certification. Visit the Virginia Department of Education website for more details.  

State Recognition    

Many states across the nation provide credit towards initial or advanced certification. Be sure to check with the local Virginia Department of Education to see if this is a possibility with your state.  

Educational Credits               

Universities across the nation offer graduate credit hours for teachers completing the National Board Certification process. Each college will be different, so it is important to reach out to your Local Virginia university to find out of CEUs or graduate credit hours are a potential within your local university.

A number of districts within Virginia provide support for NBPTS and this is imperative to your success as you journey through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards process. Candidate Support Providers (CSPs) are located all over and provide a variety of services to aid and assist teachers becoming or renewing their NBPTS Certification.
