What are the benefits of being an NBCT in NC?
North Carolina NBCT Financial Incentives
North Carolina is one of the states that provides financial incentives to teachers who are National Board Certified Teachers. In fact, NBCTs move to a new salary schedule upon achieving certification. This distinction results in the 12 percent salary increase overall.
State Recognition
Along with financial incentives, the State of North Carolina grants full licensure renewal to all teachers completing the National Board Certification process, regardless of achievement. In addition, the state grants three days of release time to initial candidates who are eligible.
Educational Credits
Many North Carolina universities offer graduate credit hours to teachers who achieve National Board Certification. Upon completion of the certification process, teachers who were in the 10-year National Board renewal cycle earned two credits (one for content and one for literacy.) Make sure to check with your local North Carolina University to see if the specific institution offers graduate credit.
NBPTS Support Options
With North Carolina having nearly 24,000 National Board Teachers achieving NBPTS Certification, North Carolina have many resources available for support. One of which includes Tracey Bryant Stuckey's NBCT programs. Done virtually, Tracey offers support for Initial NBTS Certification on Component 3 and Component 4. Renewal candidates going through the NB MOC (Maintenance of Certification) can go through Renew Like a Pro. By the end of each Professional Development experience, you will have a NB portfolio ready to be submitted. These programs have asynchronous lessons and the ability to add on synchronous coaching sessions to collaborate with other teachers, not only in North Carolina, but across the nation.
