What are the benefits of being an NBCT in KY?

Kentucky NBCT Financial Incentives                 

National Board Certified Teachers in Kentucky receive an annual bonus of $2,000 to thier salary for the life of the certificate. This also factors into retirement as well. 

State Recognition    

Kentucky is one of the states that recognizes National Board Certification. Kentucky does a Ranking certification, and new NBCTs with Rank 3 certification, are allowed to apply to the State Education Professional Standards Board for a permanent increase to Rank 2. This also applies to those NBCTs with Rank 2, who can apply for a permanent change to Rank 1.                       

Educational Credits               

Some universities in Kentucky will accept National Board Certification towards graduate credit. Make sure that you check with your local Kentucky University to see if this is an option for you. Excitingly, some universities are starting to embed the work of board certification components into both master's and doctorial degrees.  

NBPTS Support Options

Some districts in Kentucky do offer support for NBPTS Certification. Depending on what part of Kentucky you are located, this support may be limited. If you are looking for support you are encouraged to find a cohort or group of others working on the process, even if they are of a different certification area to brainstorm with. Tracey Bryant Stuckey offers several Initial Professional Development Programs for support on Component 3 and Component 4 of the NBPTS certification process. Candidates in Kentucky who are renewing certification through the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process may wish to join the Renew Like a Pro cohort to work with other teachers across the country complete your portfolio through this cohort. By the completion of these programs, you will have a completed Portfolio that is ready to be submitted.
