Cohort Frequently Asked Questions
What is different in bootcamp and the cohort?
The bootcamp is a jumpstart in the process to help break down what the overall MOC process will look like. By the end of the bootcamp you will have a clear understanding of the process. The Cohort however is much more hands on and by the end of the 12 weeks, you will have your completed MOC Portfolio. The cohort includes live group coaching sessions, a success coach to make sure that you are staying on track, and weekly homework and coaching videos to walk you through the MOC process step
by step.
How long do I have access to the video library after 12 weeks?
During the duration of the 12-week cohort, you will have access to the video library. Upon the end of the 12 weeks, you will have the option to subscribe to the video library at a discounted rate than offered to the public, however you will have access to the Renew Like a Pro course until the day after the submission portal closes in May of 2023.
What can I expect from the Renew Like a Pro program cohort?
You can expect this to be like an online graduate course, with a syllabus, weekly homework, group coaching meetings, and a success coach who will be tracking your progress through the course. Think of your success coach as an accountability partner. He or she will be tracking you behind the scenes to make sure that you are working and they will help monitor the private cohort community (think of this like a private Facebook group, but NOT Facebook). Your homework is relevant to building your portfolio and is crucial to your success. By the end of the cohort, you will have your completed MOC Portfolio ready to be submitted to the National Board.
Can I work at my own pace?
Yes, you can! The cohort duration is 12 weeks and includes group coaching. After the cohort ends, you will still have access to the entire Renew Like a Pro course and your cohort coaching recordings. The most successful candidates follow along with the prescribed plan from Tracey. Weeks in the course, will unlock in correspondence to the week within your cohort. For example if the cohort is on Week 6, all Week 6 content and assignments will open at the start of that week.
Do you work with a variety of certificate areas?
Yes I do, in fact I have worked with all 25 different certification areas over the last 20+ years of coaching.
Do you work at NBPTS?
While I do love the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, I do not work for them. I have scored the renewal process, however this was contracted out through Pearson.
Do you offer CEU credits for this program?
Yes, at the end of the cohort, you will receive a transcript with 40 hours that you can turn into your district. Some districts accept these hours and others do not. This is at the sole discretion of your school district. For more information, please reach out to the continuing education personnel in your individual district for guidelines and stipulations on this.
How many teachers are in each cohort?
I have seats for 50 teachers in each cohort. Your cohort will have no more than 50 going through the MOC Process with you. There may be fewer in the cohort, but there will never be more than 50. In general, earlier cohorts in the season have fewer teachers than the cohorts beginning in January or February.
Can I purchase my seat now for a later cohort?
Yes, absolutely. In fact, I encourage you to do this before all cohort seats are full. Once all seats in the cohort class are full, you will need to select the next cohort (if available). I do this to ensure that I am giving the best possible service to my cohort members, which I affectionately call my Tribe. Access to the materials will open on the first day of the cohort.
Do you have a syllabus for this cohort program?
Yes, I do have a syllabus for this program. A sample syllabus can be found on the checkout page for each cohort. Members of the cohort should use this document regularly to ensure that they are keeping pace within the cohort. The
most successful teachers I have worked with have followed my plan and not skipped the homework. Final writing for the portfolio is quick, due to the fact that all of the planning has been done.
Do you read our completed portfolio?
Yes, at the end of the cohort you will have the ability to add on a Read and Advise package. This means that Tracey will personally read and color code your writing to show how it meets the NBPTS rubric. You will turn in your Component 1 Written Commentary, Component 1 Evidence, Component 2 Written Commentary, and your video. Everything will be read and evaluated, and you will receive a personalized video and action plan of what (if anything) needs to be done to strengthen your portfolio and address all parts of the rubric. Many teachers in the past have found this service serves as an overall piece of mind before submitting their final copies to NBPTS.
Is this program right for someone who procrastinates?
It depends on what type of procrastination. If you don’t trust yourself to get this done on your own, but a systematic, reverse-engineered weekly plan is what you need then 100%, this is right for you. Your success coach will be monitoring your progress on the back end and making sure that you are keeping up with the pace of the course. This adds another level of accountability, along with a cohort specific community where you can safely share your work, homework, and ideas with other members of the cohort. If you are one who procrastinates, even with all of those accountability measures in place, this program may not be right for you.
What are my one-on-one help options?
Within the cohort, you will have the ability to purchase VIT (Very Important Teacher) Sessions, which are one-on-one meetings with Tracey. These meetings will be recorded, and a team member will send you the recording of the session. During the 30 minutes, you will be able to ask Tracey whatever you like in order to bust through writer’s block and ask specific questions on your work.
Will I have access to my course after 12 weeks?
Yes, you will have access to all of your course materials, and cohort group coaching recordings until the day after the NBPTS Scoring Portal closes for the 2022-2023 Season in May.
Do I get live support?
Yes, within the cohort you will have group coaching meetings via zoom, every other week. These meetings will have a specific lesson, relevant to where the cohort is in the course and the ability for you to ask me questions. These sessions are 1 hour long and are always fun, safe, and informative.
Will you answer my individual questions?
Yes, within group coaching you will have the ability to ask specific and individual questions. You will also be able to ask questions within the cohort community to collaborate and connect with other teachers within the cohort.
What happens if I don’t finish in 12 weeks?
With the accountability measures of the weekly plan, live meetings, ability to purchase one-on- one meetings with me, my team monitoring you on the back end, and the cohort community with other teachers, you should easily be able to finish your entire MOC Portfolio in 12 weeks. Treat this course like a graduate level class and you will have no problem completing your portfolio in a timely manner Candidates, who due to extenuating circumstances, will be able to join the next cohort at a reduced cost, this however may not be necessary as you will have access to your Renew Like a Pro course and cohort coaching calls until the day after the submission portal closes in May of 2023. These situations will be reviewed and examined on a case-by-case basis.
Why should I pay when my district offers free support?
I get this question a lot from teachers, and the answer is actually quite simple. Not all districts/states offer support for Renewal and MOC candidates. My approach and coaching style is different, which makes my cohort unique. With teachers all over the United States and abroad, you learn and grow with others. The 12-week cohort is active and candidates know exactly what they should be working on from week to week within the cohort. My reverse-engineered strategy has helped thousands of NBPTS teachers over the last 20+ years of coaching.
Where is the VIT Program choice?
The VIT Program has changed just a little this year. Instead of including the price upfront, all candidates have the ability to book one-on-one VIT sessions with me. During these sessions I can review your work, you can ask questions, or whatever you need. I will be all ears and ready to help you in any way that I can during our VIT session.
