What are the benefits of being an NBCT in ME?

Maine NBCT Financial Incentives                 

National Board Certified Teachers in Maine are issued a state stipend annual. The money in the budget is allocated for the stipend is divided among the total number of reporting NBCTs by October 15 each year. Some districts offer additional stipends. Make sure to check with the local school district administration or principal to find out if your district offers this additional stipend.

State Recognition    

Maine is one of the states recognizing National Board Certification and this certification can count toward obtaining a professional certificate and toward obtaining and renewing a master certificate within the state.                        

Educational Credits               

Some universities in Maine will accept National Board Certification towards graduate credit, be sure to check with your local Maine university to find out if this is a possibility.  

NBPTS Support Options

Depending on what part of Maine you are located in, you may or may not have local support options for NBCTs. If you are looking for support you are encouraged to find a local cohort or group working on National Board Certification. Another option is through one of Tracey Bryant Stuckey's NBCT programs. Tracey actually appeared at an annual National Board Meeting in Maine a few years ago virtually during a presentation. With offerings for Initial NBTS Certification on Component 3 and Component 4 , as well as for the Maintenance of Certification Program, through Renew Like a Pro. By the end of each program, you will have a NB portfolio ready to be turned in and submitted.
